Beat Runner --> FREE

Hey Guys,

Now anyone can play Beat Runner for FREE for a limited time.

Go ahead download it. We are very interested how much time it takes for you to beat it, if you can.
Report back your impressions and thoughts.

iTunes:

Details:

Beat Runner is an exciting rhythm based runner game.
With its strong beat and rhythmic melody, it gives you a fantastic experience.

Jump to the rhythm, avoid obstacles, try to play through the entire song.
The beat tells you when to jump. Trust the music.

The game has simple one touch control yet addictive gameplay and it is suitable for both experienced and new players.
Easy to play, hard to master. Some might say it cannot be completely beaten. Especially on Extreme mode. Patience and practice will be your friends.

The levels (music tracks) are split into short parts. Practice on the individual parts. When you have mastered the individual parts then comes the FINALE (the full song) with all parts together.

18 amazing stages ( including 3 extreme and challenging "Finale" levels) with increasing difficulty and speed.
At the "Finale" levels you can choose between Extreme (no extra life) and Normal mode (3 lives).

Packed with beautiful visual effects and amazing music tracks.

The game rewards you with stars. Try to beat each level in one attempt and collect 3 stars. You can improve your attempt number by restarting the levels.

The flow of the game is perfectly in sync with the music's rhythm and melody.
If you like music, rhythm and addictive runner games, you have it all in Beat Runner, and more...

Try it, beat it and enjoy it!

I grabbed the game, and have beaten everything with 1 attempt, save the level 3 Finale. Reminds me of the Impossible Game but not as difficult - or perhaps my time with the Impossible Game simply made me better at these games, dunno.

The splitting of each level into parts is nice since it allows the player to get used to the level before tackling the whole thing. But this also means it has a different type of satisfaction compared to the Impossible Game where the player strives to surpass their previous best each attempt. This design is much more friendly, which depending on the person could be viewed as good or bad.

I'll take on the level 3 finale at some point, eyes are having trouble focusing right now. But the game's good, recommend it to people that like rhythm games and people that enjoyed the Impossible Game.

Looks interesting. Downloading now, thanks.

Edit: gave it a try and played through the first level. Segments of that first song took 1 to 3 tries before I completed them. The whole song took 2 tries. I may play through the whole thing but I honestly (as of level 1 complete) don't really see this as something I'd buy. Without GameCenter I can't see wanting to perfect my scores. Maybe if the character (I know it's a ball) did more things or there were more types of ground or something to change up the gameplay it wouldn't seem so basic. As it is I can see this as a beginning of something that could be great but it just lacks some depth in the gameplay and could use a little more character. If I play through the other two levels then I'll post an update.

Thanks for your input. Keep on playing it gets progressively harder with new creative features. The first level is basically the worm up. We did test plays with a lot of beta testers. For 50% of them the first level was hard. People have different skills, and we understand you are the better ones. The 3rd level is much much harder and faster.
We are planning to add more stuff in the future.
Thanks again for your feedback. That is how we can adjust our games to the needs of our players.

Why isn't this game universal? Graphics do not look too good in 2x mode.

I did play more of the game. Level 2 was more challenging despite being fewer segments. It took many more tries to perfect each level, but I managed to do it. Level 3, I admit, it got a bit too frustrating and I gave up and deleted the app. I think the layout of some of the up and down bits were too close together and ultimately seemed too tediously hard. Not sure if this applies but I play on an iPhone4s.

Level 2 though was pretty cool and I like the whole split mechanic where you have two ball characters to maneuver. That added something cool to the mix. Still with level 3 seeming more frustrating than fun, I had to ask myself if I wanted to keep going and the answer was a sorry but no. There's no GameCenter leaderboards or achievements to at least show what I had accomplished. There didn't appear to be any content past that 3rd song so nothing to really unlock.

There is a possible bug in the game. Not a huge one, but it's easy to bypass the whole counter that determines how many tries you took to finish a level. Just exit the level back to the menu and retry it there instead of clicking the retry button. The counter is reset to it being the first try. Really keeping track of the number of tries is a bit silly though since I feel it discourages me from keeping on going if I have to retry a bunch of times. And those retries are penalties to the overall star rating so might as well bypass them to the menu to get 3 stars.. not that it matters.

The number of tries isn't a permanent thing either way, re entering a level you completed allows you to try again from 1 attempt. And although you can leave and re-enter to reset it, it can get tedious to do so instead of just continuing to play through until you get it down then going back for a fresh run.

It's not supposed to be like "haha you took 20 tries and now you look stupid" it's supposed to gauge how well you do at the level and give you something to improve upon. I got everything that I did(everything except for the level 3 finale) within only a couple attempts, though, and ended up with 1 attempt for each.

You are perfectly right. That is how the game was built. Thanks for explaining it to fellow gamers.
