I wonder if it plays like Joust (since it looks a lot like it).

okay, if you like joust, then i definitely recommend this...it is very "jousty"

the controls are easy to work with and the action is quick

If anything I thought it was too fast. The speed was just off. Augmented by the fact that the controls aren't particularly ideal, for free though it is a nice homage to Joust.

this could be fun if there were options for settings since one tap left or right sends you careening across the screen like a bullet.

agreed, i wish it didn't have us flying around at such as fast pace...definitely makes it hard to control your flight path

I posted to the front page since -- hey, it's free. I did play an earlier build, but haven't had a chance to test out the final to see if it was notably different.

Some old mac gamers are going to be pretty happy about it. And yes, it's very Joust-y.

I"ve never heard of Joust, but for free I'll give this one a try.

Doh! You must be pretty young then. The funny thing is I used to think I really liked Joust, and then a few months ago I got to play the original arcade version again. It's horrible! Of course, it was probably a lot more fun when it first came out. Isotope 244 made a killer update to the theme called Atomic Battle Dragons for the Pocket PC, so maybe they'll port that one some day. In the mean time, I guess I'll have to check this one out.
