In 1984 U.S. President Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday in July to be National Ice Cream Day. Reagan recognized the popularity of ice cream in the United States and stated that this holiday should be observed with "appropriate ceremonies and activities." There is a Moon Festival Day that is celebrated by the Chinese community and falls on October 3 this year. Btw, I know because it's a big deal here in San Francisco.
