Is it common or easy for Indie Game developers to get sponsorships? Is it even possible?

    Please let me know how!

    Im gonna say generally no.

Do you have a demo, mostly working prototype or vertical slice?
So you have a proven track record of shipping games that sell?

    Then maybe...

Anyhow the worlds changed for the better we have things like kickstarter etc that put more control in the devs hands and even help demonstrate that there is actually market interest in your idea.
( Note that ideas alone are pretty much worth nothing )

Sponsership is more common on browser based games, we are talking Flash and HTML5. On iOS,Android or other mobile operating systems as well as the traditional desktop systems it is virtually unheard of to get sponsorship.

Crowd Funding is an option but remember that you have a legal obligation to do what you said you were going to do, or otherwise convince investors that their money was not wasted. Sites like Kickstarter are also only available in certain countries (I think it's UK,USA and Canada just now but there may be more).

Either option will require some sort of proof of commitment such as a demo or trailer and a detailed plan, otherwise you'll likely be overlooked. Even with these things it's easy to be overlooked.
