Mind blown. I've read about this elsewhere and have heard from others it is one of the best. Time to grab this..
Have been using Traktor on my Mac for years. Don't know about this version, but I def. recommend to try it out for free.
Wow! I would have never thought this would go in sale for free! Both the ipad and the iphone versions are free.
Precisely! It didn't take too too long either, considering when it came out. Big name apps, especially music ones such as this, usually take years and years to go free. This was, what, about a year/ year and a half? Anyway, I'm getting it.
It's part of this purported 5th annoversary thing. Top apps in every category have gone free: gmaes of course; Over (photography), Barefoot World Atlas (books, educational), a top rated journal app (productivity), etc. Big name music apps rarely go free. Ever.
Bought this the day it came out. It is really good. Lots of features and FX plus it analyzes your tracks' key so you can mix harmonically. But while the automatic tempo detection and beatgrids are really accurate, there's no pitch bend/nudge. You can adjust the grid on the fly if you get tracks running out of sync but old tunes with a real drummer and drifting pitch are not suitable for this app at all. If you just like modern techno/electro/drum n bass it's great. If you like 70s or 80s disco - forget it!
I'm not to familiar with dj apps...could I make, say...a 45 minute Oldwave mix, mushing the beat together, stretching and morphing beats together like a remixer would?
Yeah I didn't realize it was the fifth anniversary until tonight. I mean, think about how long it took for Djay (oh how overrated it is) to go free! So yeah, big name music apps never go free. Quite disappointing, considering that's what I'm really into.
All depends how old your tracks are and how much the tempo drifts. New songs done in Ableton with midi drums are rock solid but live drummers and 80s drum machines are all over the place. It works out the first down beat and the tempo, then lays a grid of evenly spaced markers over the tracks. Traktor matches the two grids, not the actual drums so any slight drift in the tempo makes the tracks sound out of sync. In the full Mac/PC version you can create custom grids and there's a pitch bend button which will slightly speed up or slow down the track to nudge them together. Hopefully they'll add pitch bend. It is a great app.
Still cant believe this app went free. The mixing on this is so smooth, makes you want to get their hardware controller (Z1) they just released this month also. I might pick it up later this year.
Awesome app. A must have if you like music and either mixing or thought of mixing music. Still listed as free, just not sure for how much longer.
