This looks hot. How playable is it without the "Ultimate Squad Bundle"??

I bought this game ages ago, thinking to come back to it once Season 1 was finished. Loading it up today, I found the level packs were now free and only 17 of the 24 Season 1 missions were finished. Has it been abandoned? That'd be a shame. IIRC the production values were sky-high and the gameplay was engaging.
