Devil Must Die

I TOFTT on this, I guess. I dunno if the team is gonna care, though. If you're one of the few people that liked Devil Dice on the PSX, you might.

As far as gameplay is concerned, it's a direct clone. Same exact concept as DD, but with 2-D graphics. While the touch controls work very well, I think the implementation of how you toggle between "roll" and "push" is clunky at best. In DD you controled a little Devil. When standing on top of the die and moving the d-pad, it would roll. While standing along side the die, you could push it. As it stands in Devil Must Die, you switch between these two actions by hitting a single button on the bottom right-hand side of the screen. As the level progresses and things get more and more hectic, this can be daunting.

The premise of the game is simple enough. You have to match three or more like sides of dice in order to clear them. The higher the value on the shown side will net you a higher score. However, if you get too greedy and attempt to flip too many dice to a higher value rather than simply clearing your a path, you may find yourself overwhelmed. In addition, once a row(s) of die are cleared, you can continue to add like sides of dice onto the row before they completely disolve. The greater the chain, the higher your score.

Alas, there is no tiny Devil here and no lightning bolts to clear your path. Not that it should matter, but that was one of the things that gave DD it's personality. Menus and game boards in DMD are bland and ameteur looking. Puzzle mode is total waste as well. In DD you were given a certain number of moves in which to complete them. In DMD you have an infinite number of moves. Sure, you can strive to complete them in as few moves as you can, but what's the fun if you don't know what the optimal amount is. Solving puzzles never having known the true solution is not in any way fun.

With a little polish, this could be a winner. The frenetic gameplay is still here, but it has a ways to go.

Thanks for the feedback, the push/roll interface is something that bordered me as well and i will try to find a way around it.

Awesome! I'm glad to see you're looking to make improvements. DD was always one of my favorite games. As a fan, I can't really think of way to make the roll/push work, either. At first I thought it would be nice if you simply held your finger over a die and slid it over for "push" or flicked it for "roll", but I think that may cause more problems than it solves on such a small playing area. What about double tapping the adjacent spaces for "roll" while using a single tap to "push"? I'm not a developer, so that may be not be feasible. In the meantime, maybe you could just add the push/roll switches to the other three corners of the game board? At least that way you could hit the one closest to the location you're working in.

As far as a mascot is concerned, I realize you can't use the Devil. That's fine, but hopefully you can find a way to give it a little more character. You really need to get the puzzle mode worked out as well. I'd love to have the abilty of unlocking pictures to be used as future game boards by solving puzzles correctly. I dunno, how close you want to get to DD, though.

As critical as my review may have sounded, I have to say I was so stoked to see this last night! I knew immediately what it was just be reading the title and looking at the screen shots. I look forward to seeing what else you can do with it!

Grabbed 699FHFL7W7F7

Thanks!

Devil Dice is a classic - I imported the PS2 version that would play 5 player (game is in Chinese, but very playable)

Tried most of them, and many were used up, but one did work (one in the middle) I think it was HJL67X9JLTHK. Thank you very much
