Best of 2013 lists

So it is that time of year where people start talking about their best of the year so I thought we could start one here for people's best of iPad games 2013.

Couple of general guidelines

1. this isn't limited to games that came out in 2013 but instead games you played in 2013. So if you are just firing up Infinity Blade 1 or Bewjewled fine. This is about what you enjoyed playing in the year.

2. no categories. I think iPad games is confined enough. I guess if that means Word with Friends is at the top of everyone's list so be it.

Other than that have fun! Hopefully we will all find some gems we missed this year!

My list:

1. XCom: Enemy Unknown. I never would have expected that a full PC game could work so well on the iPad. It is a great game and I hope developers see the huge potential to put out more games of this calibre on the system. It isn't that Angry Birds 9 isn't going to be great but sometimes it is nice to see a more...robust game.

2. Costume Quest. Fun, simple and adorable. It certainly doesn't shake up any thing but it is just nice to play.

3. Golden Trails: The New Western. Mostly I love this because it is a HOG that doesn't have a horror theme. If you head to Big Fish Games or G5 games there are tons of HOG but almost all of them are about murder, ghosts, etc. It is nice to have a story that is not supernatural.

4. The Room. Great, great puzzle game. I know it was last year but hey read the guidelines above

Stuff I wish would have made it on this list

1. Star Command. It looked so great and at first playing it was but it got old really fast and without exploration it ended and I never really felt the need to pick it up again.

2. Plants vs. Zombies 2. It is certainly good, probably even great but somehow I never felt a huge push to keep playing. I just didn't care. Maybe the time has just passed for me.

3. Stargate GS-1. Another game I wanted to love but it was just sort of meh.

Give Star Wars: KOTOR and Baldur's Gate some love. This is really the year that the AAA console and computer ports started to hit the iPad.

(Xcom was already mentioned above.)

I loved KOTOR so much on the consoles years ago but darn Tarsis took a long time to get out of!

I am still amazed they could make it work on the iPad but I think I only got to Tantooinee - which for being a back water of the galaxy seems to have an incredible number of important things happen on it!
