IUGO has been a quality app store developer since the beginning. With games like the Toy Bot Diaries, Zombie attack, freeballin, and more recently star hogs, theyve made alot of great games. Now IUGO has changed up the Toy Bot formula to make their latest hit, Spy Bot Chronicles. The premise is you control a spy bot who has to save toy bot from the evil theif bot. It may sound a little wierd but it makes for a great game. Spy Bot chroncles is another masterpiece from IUGO.
Gameplay: The gameplay of Spy Bot Chronicles is great. Its looks like Toy Bot Diaries but it controls very differently. While TBD was more of a puzzle platformer, SBC is a more classic platformer along the lines of a mario game or something. You jump, shoot enemies, avoid obstacles, and move from platform to platform collecting cogs. These cogs are similar to coins in a mario game. Theres a lot of them in a level and it behooves you to collect them all before you finish but its not imperative. Along the way Spy Bot will gain new powers to aid in his quest to save toy bot. He gets a hacking chip to hack objects around him and bend them to his will, a laser to shoot enemies and some other ones. These are handled in the form of collectables. In all there are about 35 collectables in the game, some of which of course pay homage to IUGO's other games. All in all, its a great platformer with a vast amount of everything. Just some of the amazing numbers: 4 worlds all broken down into many more levels which doesnt even include all the secret levels in the game, over half a dozen enemies to fight, and once again a whopping 35 collectibles. Its a great formula for a platformer and the gameplay works great. Graphics: The graphics in SBC are also very good. In the same style as TBD, its a 2D environment with a surprising amont of polish and detail. The worlds and characters are detailed, vibrant, and full of life. The animations are nice as well as the the extras like lasers and special effects. The graphics show a great amount of detail and hard work and really add to the overall polished feel of the game. Sound: The sound in SBC is very good. The music kind of gives an atmosphere to the game and is sometimes a little cheezy but its classic IUGO and works well. The better part of the sound is the sound effects. There are sound effects for everything and they make the game seem really high tech. From the sound of a double jump or a firing a laser, it sounds like sounds that a robot would make and really sets the setting for the game. The sound is well done. Controls: The controls are one of the main reasons this game shines. On the bottom left hand corner there two arrows, one for moving left and one for right. On the bottow right hand corner there is a jump button. While its nothing special, it works suprisingly well and really makes the game. Without good controls, a platformer fails. The controls get the job down almost flawlessly here and make the game very enjoyable. Other things like hacking objects and firing a laser are done by tapping on the screen where the laser should be aimed or what object you want to hack. The controls are often a make or break thing for a game. In this situation, they make it for sure. Replayability: The replayability of this game is through the roof. Theres an incredibly long "campaign" with a ton of levels. And, if you finish the levels, you can go back to collect all the cogs on the level or to find all the collectibles. IUGO obviously thought about how to make this game fun to play over and over again and they truly did a great job. The levels are diverse and varied and i never found myself getting bored during the game. Its a long game that you can play again and again. As you can tell from the review, this game is fabulous. Theres so much to do and the whole game is well done. Its deep, long, polished, and most importantly fun. Not to mention its now going for an early bird special price of $.99. Its an absolute steal and one of the few gems on the app store. Gameplay: 9.5/10 Graphics: 9/10 Sound: 9/10 Controls: 9/10 Replayability: 9.5/10 Overall: 9.5/10 (not an average) MUST BUY! |
