Pixel King: An experiment in non-evil free-to-play

As a hobbyist developer who makes small games more for fun than profit, I've realised that, above everything else, I really want as many people as possible to try and hopefully enjoy my game.

As an unknown developer, it kinda makes sense that a big portion of my downloads to date were back in October when I made the game free for a few days. As such, I'm going to experiment with making All Glory to the Pixel King free-to-play.

Ewww, free-to-play you say? But don't run away just yet! I am not in the business of fleecing vulnerable people who like to click on hungry cows. I just want to make it so as many people can play my game as possible, and even if I only sell something to 0.1% of players, I'll hopefully still be covering costs like I was when the game was paid but only downloaded by brave people willing to take the chance on something unknown.

So, in spite of a few additional IAP options, it's still the same game it's always been, with the same level of progression as before. There will be no new sudden paywalls, no pushiness to buy, no timers whatsoever, the same fair matchmaking, and absolutely no content that can't be unlocked through good old-fashioned play!

Please enjoy, and be sure to share any thoughts you may have either here or on the original game thread: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showth...23#post2826523

You are one of the good ones, sir. And your game is quite engaging, too. Good luck with your brave quest. :]

Pixel King is a fun 2D building game with strategy elements that's been very well supported. I've had it on my device for a while and it's constantly updated with new units, etc. Good luck to the developer with this experiment.

Looks really neat. I really like games with pixel-graphics.

If its free to play, then it doesn't belong announced in this forum. This is for temporary sales and deals. The main forum is where the game should have a thread and maybe the general games discussion forum for discussing the change to the freemium model.

Not that any mods seem to care about this forum anymore. Threads for freemium games seem to rarely get moved or locked anymore.

I posted the OP's statement to the regular thread on the game. This forum though isn't for announcements of games changing pay models. It may seem like a negative thing to point out but I'd actually love it if this forum were more useful for finding actual sales/deals. I have nothing against this game or the dev... infact I've had this game a long time now.

Well the name of the forum is "Price Drops, Must-Have Freebies, and Deals." Going from $0.99 -> $0.00 is a price drop. Why would I look in any other forum than this one for the announcement of the price drop?
