I bought it as soon as it hit a buck and I've already got that much enjoyment out of it.

I'm still sore over spending 3 bucks on this, and I wouldn't recommend this game at any price. The good part is that Gameloft saved me 5 buck on the the Amazing Spider-Man 2, as I'm now avoiding all of their new "premium" games. You know, "premium", which means a constant online connection for a single player game and a boatload of IAP's.

Outside of those two issues, is this game a fun beat em up?

Doesn't look too good, worth skipping...would expect to see it go free later on TA Review http://toucharcade.com/2014/04/04/ca...at-that-means/

One thing that bothers me is the heavy-handed use of IAP, and numerous currencies used. Everything about the menus could be taken straight from a freemium game. Timed challenges, bonus wheels to spin and upgrades using both gold and other currencies. If you fail a level you get the option to revive agents, and the Cap at a cost. If you don’t the upgrades to your agents are lost. Additionally, it requires a constant internet connection to play.

Sure you can play for as much as you want without timers, or lack of in-game energy, but after a while you will feel that you are just moving closer to the point where the game will demand more money from you to stand a fair chance.

It's fun for an hour or two, after that it starts feeling repetitive and grindy. After my experience with it, a $1 sale is hardly surprising. This is definitely a game I can see going free sooner or later.
