Forgive my ignorance, but is this a new game or a free version of Minimae?

Not that it matters too much to me, it's going to get played to death! Absolutely love everything this developer produces!

The Developer is still working on Minimae II but that will take a bit longer to get finished:

What are the differences? Is this basically like a LITE version where you can buy the rest of the game?

I checked the itunes store and there are no IAPs listed. Confused.

From their announcement/upcoming thread:

Basically, we took our classic mini-RPG Minimę, and made a new app that's free in the real world, with everything more expensive in the game world. Grind if you like, or use the new incentivized Dream Of... menu to watch Vungles and earn gold, map orbs, even HP! Plus we added pithy commentary on the nature of "free" to townsfolk throughout the game.

If the cost-money variety of games isn't your style, we hope you'll really enjoy RPG Quest - Freemiae! It's already been submitted to Apple, and it should be available in the next week or so.
So it's the original game, but the in-game expenses are increased, with the ability to view commercials (via the Dream of... menu item) for in game boosts. Plus, the in game commoners will spout off about the nature of freedom (I'm picturing Arthur's interaction with the peasants in Monty Python and the Holy Grail).

For anyone watching the gameplay video, note that the game will run in both portrait and landscape mode, you can switch on the fly (or choose to lock with the iOS prefs). I prefer landscape myself, but several players I know like portrait because of the one-handed play.

Also note that the Vungles are totally optional, but my testers (my kids) are quite happy to "cheat" by watching the ads.

Darian's explanation is right on.

The other differences from the original are: a new avatar, MFi controller support, and some updated menu options. The controller and menu stuff will be added in a Minimae update soon.

By the way, you can just tap the monster to attack rather than selecting the menu item.
