Will iOS8 Metal make unsupported devices out of date?

With Metal out on devices with the A7 chip and above, will this mean that all devices before this will quickly become out of date? Is it possible that developers will from now on use Metal in their apps forcing any devices which do not support Metal to be unable to download? Seeing games such as Asphalt 8 and MC5 which now how content exclusive to Metal, I can see that future games may require Metal in order to play in the first place. Or is this very unlikely to happen?

It's possible for devs to build a single app which supports both metal and OpenGL paths in a single package.

Choosing to use metal is a bit of an odd one because it'll make your app faster but only for the devices that are already the fastest anyway.

I wouldn't worry about a significant number of apps being metal only for good long while, although I'm sure it'll marginally hasten the demise of premetal devices eventually.
