After the restore is done iTunes asks you to choose if you want to setup a new iPhone or use an old backup. Choose the latest one and you`ll be fine

You will need to re-jailbreak though as it`s broken after the restore. Redsn0w will jailbreak your iDevice in less than 10 minutes so nothing to worry here.

that's where a problem lays. the steps of jailbreaking told me to set up a new iphone. it didnt say i had the choice to choose between the 2. do i really need to re-jailbreak? its not that it was difficult to do the 1st time but ive already done the work plus more. how can a jailbroken phone do so much great things but not be able to do something so simple? thanks for replying

Which jailbreak method did u use? Redsn0w doesn't need you to restore at all and will jailbreak your iPhone directly.

Anyways now that you have already set it up as a new device I think you have no other option but to restore it again and choose the right backup this time.

I m not really an expert at jailbreaking and always use the jailbreaking/unlocking guides at iclarified.com. You can't go wrong if you follow those instructions. Just choose your device and follow the steps there for jailbreaking.
