I never played the original. Does it have options for practicing against the AI or something?

Assuming the modes have made it into this version, there's Practice and Survival that you can play solo. It's obviously not the core experience but entertaining enough for people like me that are apprehensive about one vs one multiplayer.

I'm really happy to see this version hit iOS; it's not very often a game turns from Freemium to Premium. I have all the time in the world for devs that do this.

Does that mean possibly I could play this on the train and also never touch MP? I don't think I'm competitive enough honestly but the game still looks amazing.

Not RTS. TBS. Built primarily with competitive multiplayer in mind, but can be enjoyed in single player as well (though I cannot recall if it requires an internet connection to do so).
