The advertising return I got on my game pianoTap is just short of 100 times better than admob. I talked to my partner and it seems Tencents pushes the ads in a way that bring a high return. . I believe it has something to do with the curious nature of the Chinese. Whatever it is China is going to be the next big market and I am glad to be here when it is just about to give birth
Interesting. I've heard from lots of Chinese game publishers that Ad Revenue is weak in China. From the meetings I have had most revenue seems to stem from in app purchases. One such game ( a fishing game) apparently has made $5 million USD from IAP (as of a year ago so I assume a lot more) and only $80,000 from Ads. Granted $80k is not bad for ad revenue, but it's also not great. If you can, do you have any more detailed numbers as to what things look like in that market for ad revenue? Impressions? Fill rate? I agree Admob can be weak at times but generally it's a good ad platform I think. I don't know too much about the Chinese market but I do know it's growing, I just didn't hear that about the Ad Revenue. I'd love to know more.
From what I've been told the Chinese market is big on in-app purchase and I am just finishing a game that will test this. There is a lot to learn about this market because it does not work exactly like the established markets and the players don't respond the same way. I meet with one company that has made a lot of money in the Chinese market with in-app purchase and that is what is pushing me in that direction. Comparing apple to apple 1 game on ad mob is producing 1/100 ad revenue than what the Chinese market is. I also meet with a company that is getting into the publishing business with about $10,000,000 start up capital. They want to publish foreign games in partnership with developers, tailor the games for the Chinese market and advertise those that show some promise. I will see what will happen with my next game and check with my partner to see how many of our current games are published in the Chinese market.
