I am just not getting this. The "cut tiles from the opponents King" thing doesn't seem to work, meanwhile the AI just takes over mine no problem. No matter how many times I check the tutorial I can't see what I'm doing wrong

I had to check the tutorial 4 times myself before I knew what was going on Ha Ha, but now I get the hang of it, the most important thing I learned so far is to not put a tile on the opponents last move, because than he gets an extra move, and it soon is game over.
It's a fun game for people who have the patience.

It took me a minute to figure out that you essentially have to cut off and separate the opponents tiles from the king. It's hard to sneak around and do that while the AI is creeping on you. I won one game on easy and that's it so far.
Trying to play a random dude online but it's much slower going

Hi guys!

I've been following this game for about a year now and have been part of the beta since day one, and the game is great! I'm sorry to see that you have trouble understanding the rules. I'll try to explain them as good as I can so you don't give up on this gem.

The object of the game is to capture your opponents king in the top right corner. You do this by placing a tile in it.

Every turn you have at least two actions. An action could be to place a new tile orthogonally adjacent to one of your existing tiles. Diagonally won't do it. An action could also be to fortify one of your tiles. Fortifying means you build a wall facing on of the for directions. A wall prevents this tile from being taken over from the side the wall faces. The last alternative for your actions is to redirect an existing fortification (wall)

Your kingdom consist of all your orthogonally adjacent tiles and is easily distinguished by the color.

As stated you have at least two actions per turn, but you could have three or ever four. The extra actions are called bonus-actions. You can see how many actions you have this turn by counting the colored boxes under your name. The same goes for the opponent action, look at the small boxes under respective name.

Bonus-action are acquired in two ways. Either by cutting of one or more of the opponents tiles. Cutting of means placing your tiles on the opponent tiles in a way that separates one or more of the opponents tiles from its king. Separating means that they no longer are orthogonally adjacent to the rest of their kingdom. For every time you do this you get one extra move next turn (again, look at the boxes under your name). Note that you get one extra action per cut-off not one extra action per cut-off tile.

The other way to gain an extra move is when your opponent takes over one of your recently placed tiles on their turn. Those "hot tiles" are market with small boxes so you can easily see which tiles you should avoid if possible. You get one extra move for each tile your opponent "copies", up to the maximum of four total actions per turn (the two regular and two bonus-actions)

Lastly, the three middle tiles that look special can not be fortified, you can't protect them with walls.

The basic strategy is not to give your opponent bonus-actions, in fact that is often devastating. Think ahead and make sure that your opponent can't cut you of on the next turn by placing two tiles. Use fortifications and do not rush in the beginning. Build your kingdom slowly and try to set it up in a way that gives you bonus-actions without giving them away to your opponent.

Good luck and if you have any questions regarding the AI behavior please post the replay link and I'll try to explain what happened.

The game looks stunning. I always tend to buy vs games like this but I'm not huge on competitive gameplay. I tend to suck at it. Does the game happen to have a single player mode that's more than just a practice round?
