App description: During the 1960s the newly independent Congo was the scene of constant warfare. Congo Merc puts you in the middle of that fighting with a task force of elite commandos. You conduct breakneck advances into the heart of enemy territory, seize critical objectives and, just as important, return to home base.

Missions include everything from hostage rescue to tracking down Cuban cadre. You recruit from a variety of unit types, including jeep-mounted commandos, light armor, sappers, air support, paratroopers and many others.

Once a task force is organized, you maneuver it into the Congo. The map covers the entire country, and when a force enters certain points an event occurs. Events can include anything from UN intervention to ambushes by enemy fighters. Combat is resolved via a quasi-tactical procedure in which both tactical superiority and firepower play their parts.

Key Features:

4 playable operations:
- Race for the Wreckage
- Coup!
- Search and Destroy
- Rescue the Hostages
11 units including:
- Field Engineer Sappers
- Tactical Leaders
- Armoured Heavy weapons
- Transport Helicopters
- Commando platoons
- Powerful Airstrikes
- Armoured Cars
- Paratroopers
- Intel-providing PSY-OPS
- CIA agents
- Supply columns
Optional Rules.
Map zoom.
Easy to learn with included tutorial.

This is a lot different looking than their normal releases. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

I don't go for any of their hex war games (bit same mechanics, different skin, bit clunky looking) even though I love Slitherine games. I like Humanity although I'm not a classic, but nice to see something different.

I was intrigued with this and found a video on Steam, but it looks like a low grade Shenandoah Studios type game (it might play nicer, but doesn't really look it). Probably passing until more info... but when is there ever more info about Hexwar titles? They seem to be quantity over quality.

Yeah I remember that one. I meant different from other war games. Solid point though.

They're actually not bad usually. I agree they release far too many instead of a single bigger game. They're good as lite war games - being strictly scenario based. Nothing close to Slitherine.

based on the video i think i'm with skoptic, i'll probably pass. Hexwars ticks me off as them and Hunted Cow were advertising Nuts! Battle of the Bulge card game for iOS a few months back and the screenshots were really nice so i was keeping a close eye on it. they were even taking PC pre-orders. then poof, all gone, no word on if it will ever be released. also, they haven't updated the PC version of Infection yet (probably working on this game) so all in all, i'm not that impressed with them although the UI of Infection is pretty slick. ok, that's my rant, i doubt Hexwars or you guys care much but so be it. maybe, just maybe, someone will post a gameplay video of this game (Congo Merc) and impress me but i doubt it. if you buy it, have fun!

The tutorial screen was too small, about 1 quarter of the screen size

Also I encounter a bug in reading the rule book: only about one third of the text pane appears on the right margin.

Frustrated, I called for a refund

I would like to see a gameplay video and not a trailer! The trailer doesn't show much
