What a messy launch this is turning out to be! This app will be perfect for recommending the game to people who haven't played before. It'll be interesting to see if they add the Ultra Japan pack to the paid game, and the classic pack to this free version.

I bought the Ultra Japan pack in the paid JP version, and I guess it's worth it. It's a dollar a song, which seems fair enough, but it's a little harder to justify when the base game costs less and has almost three times the tracks.

Just to clarify, as I've read numerous things from different websites, this version (Neo) has all the songs of the original game, minus the classic pack, and has an 'Ultra Japan' DLC pack that can be purchased. It's not exactly free-to-play; there is another Lumines title called Lumines VS that is coming later this year that is freemium. Also, Neo is currently not translated into English, even though it's available for download on stores outside of Japan.

No idea when/if the paid version will get the DLC pack, but as putermcgee says, buying the original makes a lot more sense than investing in this, but this is a good starting point if you haven't played the games before and want to try them out and see if they're for you.
