SumiKen - Endless samurai slasher drawn in Japanese ink painting style

New character design - Kuro, the assassin!


The wandering samurai is called Sumi, it means Japanese ink!


Here's how the gameplay looks like with some quick slashing action, moving on to draw all the character animation now



Hi everyone!

I'm an indie game developer working on a simple mobile game.

The game is called SumiKen, and I'm planing to release it on AppStore on May 2017.

SumiKen is an endless samurai slasher game drawn in Japanese ink brush painting style.
This game features fast paced samurai slashing action set in the beautiful landscape of Japan.

Been working on it since August 2016 and working towards getting the game ready for release. At this stage, I'm working on the art and animation.

I'm mostly influenced by PS2 game called Okami, really like it's Japanese ink drawing style, and the action is inspired by Akira Kurosawa's masterpieces, especially Seven Samurai.

I really like this artstyle, but endless slasher/runner/etc just isn't my cup of tea anymore.
Fingers crossed you can make something with the same style but more substance (story, etc) at some point.

Thanks man! Yup, I agree, that genre is really oversaturated. My initial plan is just to make a game that I could finish and publish it, so the scope can't be too big for now unfortunately. But I did add missions in this game so player would have goals to complete, hope it adds to the game (I hope...)

Anyway, I do want to make game with deeper content in the future, probably after this game is completed. Will keep you updated
