App description: "Catan", the legendary strategy game provides gaming fun anytime, anywhere.

True to the original game, you can compete with up to four players for the most settlements, the longest roads and the largest army. You can trade with each other and claim the precious land with all its resources.

The game allows you to challenge other Catan fans online via cross-platform multiplayer to prove your strategy skills or play against the AI:
Various computer opponents, each with their own individual characteristics, will prove themselves worthy competitors: the pirate Jean, who knows no compromise, Vincent the merchant, who never allows himself to be cheated, Sean the knight, who takes what is rightfully his...

The popular Catan expansions "Seafarers", "Cities and Knights" and two new special scenarios are available as In-App purchases.

The complete Seafarers expansion includes more than 10 additional scenarios with an extensive campaign. Become Harbormaster, discover new islands and extra game elements like ships, gold fields, treasures and pirates. Ahoy!

The Cities and Knights expansion introduces various new gameplay mechanics that add even more variety to Catan. Invest new trade goods in city improvements to build one of the three metropolises of Catan but beware of the barbarians attracted by Catans new wealth! Youll need your best knights to fend them off! C&K contains a short campaign and 7 challenging maps.

Exciting adventures await you in the two new scenarios "Enchanted Land" and "The Great Canal". Vanquish dragons and bag their treasures or build a canal to help barren grain fields bloom once more.

Catan FAQ:

Question: An expansion seems gone after an update or reinstallation of Catan or after restoring the device?
Answer: Dont worry! Your initial purchase is already saved in your iTunes account. You can restore your InApp purchases by selecting the restore-option in the Catan IAP menu.

Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating or restoring my device. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: When saved games cant be automatically restored, weve integrated a cheat code: In the campaign mode go to select player and enter CatanWarp* (* = 115) as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button and restart it. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number (115). Levels up to the specified number will be unlocked in the custom game mode as well.

Question: Are dice rolls really random?
Answer: Of course! All dice rolls are 100% random and not modified in any way. Were avid Catan players ourselves. Weve played the iOS version hundreds of times while developing the program. There have been times when we won and lost a few games in a row because of the dice - just like when playing the board game!

Price was 2.99 in the UK which usually translates to $4.99 I think. The link above is currently giving a security threat for some reason but this seems to be working:

I've played a game and enjoyed it, the interfact works fine and although it doesn't have all the touches the 360 version had it plays fine. The first thing I'd do though is turn on quick animations and turn off opponent comments as initially I thought the game seemed extremely slow.

OMG! Can't wait! I suppose it'll be available in the US store in a few hours? Catan is my favorite board game, and I'm simply thrilled at the thought of being able to play it any time I want. Wonder if it's similar to the PC version I've played and had so much fun with.

Way what a major let down.

Crap sounds like a pass and I was waiting for this really bad too. No wonder everyone was quiet cuz it blows. No seafarers, no Through the Desert, no Greater Catan, no volcanoes, no gold, no nothing. The cheap mobile phones got a better game than the iphone and that came out couple years ago I believe. Once again another offical port for iphone gets the it in the rear.

- Original "Settlers of Catan" rule set

- Hot-Seat-Multiplayer mode

- Comprehensive tutorial
For computer play looks like I'll be sticking to the computer
free java version http://games.asobrain.com/
since the offical version of PC/Mac is $25.
Play in person stick with my $300 3D Settlers set.

Can anyone compare this with Kolonists? Kolonists is less than half the price - is this worth that much more? Sounds like from the few comments so far that opinions are mixed.

I have both, and while Kolonists was fine, this is the real deal and it's quite good. I've now deleted Kolonists, since I can't see myself playing it anymore with Catan in full effect. I don't need Seafarers, Cities, etc. The original is fine for me...if they wanted to add expansion packs as DLC, that'd be cool, but I don't feel entitled to it. When I bought the board game, it was this version. The other games are expansions.

Downloading now. I don't mind that it's just the basic game, as that's all I've played in real life, so this hopefully will be good practice. Hopefully they will add online multiplayer in an update, as it's pretty weak that the only multiplayer mode is hotseat.

Nice to see this game is out, I never got into the 360 version much but I can see its appeal I just didn't like or completely understand a few things. I may give this a try though.

But the same company ( I think ) also released another board game on 360 that I loved which was Carcassone ( sp? ) that I would absolutely love love to see on iphone.
