Is some of Apple rubbing off on Nintendo or something?

The Nintendo DSi has been released in Japan. Oddly, it has an online store that seems to be a lot like the appstore, and also has two newly implemented cameras. Is Nintendo taking defensive measures? They did say that the US isn't a big priority right now, and the most iDevices are here (AT&T is only here, so...) Any thoughts?

Nintendo had WiiWare, and thought they should just bring it to the DS. It's like how you can download games on the PSN network to your psp, mobile gaming stores aren't completely new, but they are relatively new. Apple could be affecting them a little, but they definitely didn't do it just because of the app store

I have doubts that Nintendo is doing anything right now in response to anything Apple has done. Nintendo attracts a certain market and so does Apple, if anything Apple may need to try to get one up on Nintendo. But still, not necessary for either.

Nintendo has had a history with both of those features in different iterations of their consoles and portables.

The gameboy had the gameboy camera, and the Wii has Wiiware, like the DSi and it's DSi Ware.

It's not a play off of the app store at all.

It's also not a defensive measure.

Sorry.

Well, in a way your correct, but like others have stated, Nintendo has other reasons for the new features as well.

I think people are just starting to realize that the iPod touch is a good device for games, but it won't be until game dedicated shops like EB Games and GameStop start to sell them when it will be "official".
