This will be pulled soon enough out of the AppStore... the Tetris Company isn't known for their sense of humor and their slow reactions.

Especially when you use their alleged trademarked "-TRIS"-suffix.

"Take heed, brave young iPhone app developers. If ye have a lust fer writin' iPhone apps that involve falling blocks—beware. The Tetris Company never sleeps, and the blood-red eyes in the back of its head can peer into the darkest depths of your soul! If you don't believe us, just ask the developers at Phunkware, the monster's latest victims."

Hi, you seemed to be lost on the Internets.
This is TouchArcade, where 2$ for a game is too much, 5$ is an outrage, and 10$ or more is putting sugar in their car tanks whilst killing puppies.

That is the main problem. It is just the name of the game. I believe, that once in a while the Tetris Company checks for their trademarks at the appstore.
I don't know how many games were taken down at their instigation, so far there were some titles they've removed:

TTC drew attention in the late 90s when it attempted to remove every freeware and shareware version of Tetris from the market by sending out cease-and-desist letters claiming both trademark and copyright infringement. Creators of Tetris clones determined that the company has no valid legal basis to claim rights to any tetromino game that does not infringe on the Tetris name trademark, since copyright "look-and-feel" suits have not stood up in court in the past (Lotus v. Borland), and because the letters made no patent claims.

In August 2008, Apple Inc. removed Tris, a version of Tetris from its online App Store. The software author had written a tetromino game for the iPhone OS without any authorization from The Tetris Company. In March 2009, The Tetris Company sued BioSocia, operator of the Omgpop gaming portal, because one of its multiplayer games, Blockles, was too similar to tetris. By September 2009, Omgpop removed the game from the website and replaced it with an alternate that the developers created, based on Puyo Puyo.

I just don't want the dev getting problems with his app, so I am posting this as a warning. As an independent developer, there are enough struggles to overcome already.

I do agree with you. I do not know how a dev makes it.

Tris received the most publicity but it is not the "latest victim:" Shaker and Tetricity have both since been removed. That doesn't mean 3Tris is in danger, however. iPentris has survived because gameplay is dissimilar enough.

Edit: Oops, I missed your Shaker link. My bad. I think I merged two posts in my mind.
