"The App Store is not like before..."

I went to a secret hidden place.
There were some devs drinking colorful cockails and eating popcorns.
Two of them were very important devs, talking with a small voice.
I heard "the App Store is not like before..."

What did they mean?

I'll drink a Red Bull. Thanks.

Of course it isn't: it was easier to make money with crap when there were 2000 apps now there are 140.000 and counting...and you need quality, as in any market.

I'll take plain water. Shaken, not stirred.

Proudly beta testing Pirate's Gold!

Indeed. Indies seem to expect that every little title they produce will be picked up by customers. If only the market actually worked that way!

Like any industry, the early adopters had a window in which they could operate with impunity. The early adopters received a disproportionate amount of attention because there was nowhere else to turn. Now that the app store is maturing, Indie developers are back working extremely hard to get noticed.

The smart ones made a name for themselves early on in the iPhone's life. Now they have brand recognition on their side. Everyone else would be wise to take a hard look at the realities of entering a crowded market before plunking down the cash for development equipment and accounts.

Don't do that! You'll bruise it!
