This is surprisingly rich for a free game. Nice 8-bit music, too. Very much recommended for retro fans.

Indeed. This is really rather cool. Can't imagine why it's free.

I've done a bit of research. First of all, as some people know, Mobila Interactive are the developers of the iPhone version of Tyrian, as well as the recently-released Rise of the Triads. The original game (Kaiten Patissier) was developed by Alpha Secret Base, an Japanese indie, as Windows/Linux freeware under a very permissive license. It has since been also ported to the Xbox 360 and the PSP.

So yeah, it's very cool that this little gem has made it to the iPhone. Thanks Alpha Secret Base, and thanks Mobila Interactive. Just for that, I'm buying a copy of Tyrian .

You really should buy Tyrian, it is an excellent.

Especially since they added a relative touch control method.

Already did. Mobila has done right by me. And you really should download this free game -- it's pretty amazing.

I do have Tyrian, but it's way too amazing that they aren't charging for this.

Wow...this is really good. The art and the music bring back memories of the old days. I would have paid for this.

I sent an email to the TA staff: hopefully it will get some front page coverage.
