Karate Champ! The arcade fighter that started it all! (Gameplay Video)

Before there was Street Fighter before there was Tekken, there was one arcade fighter to rule them all....

KARATE CHAMP!

The original arcade fighter from Data East that spawned a thousand imitators!
The very first fighting game and to many the game that embodies what a fighter should be.

* 16 May iTunes Advert Screens from game in review.

More than a blast from the past and a must-have for your fighting game / retro collection, Karate Champ is unique for it's use of TWO STICKS NO BUTTONS and VERTICAL screen.

This not only makes it unique among the fighting game fraternity but perfectly suited to the iPhone from a control viewpoint.

This is no button masher, it's about skillfully executing perfectly timed karate moves against ever more challenging opponents in your quest to become the one true Karate Champ!

Rebuilt from the ground up from the team that bought you the highly acclaimed 'Cobra Command' and upcoming 'Frogman', Karate Champ is a beloved retro classic without peer, and is coming this April courtesy of Data East and Revolutionary Concepts.

Feature include:

- Dual Stick Control (no D-Pad or buttons).
- Virtual arcade cabinet surround (no thumbs covering the action)
- Vertical orientation
- 1 Player vs CPU over 12 environments
- 2 Player Mode via Bluetooth and WIFI !!
- all the bonus rounds
- all the classic 80's sounds
- Various New User Settings
Super large Character Option
Customise the arcade unit facia
Old school scanlines on/off
- and much much more.

Gameplay Video and hands-on coming to TA soon!

Niiiiiiice!

Optional scanlines and arcade face! Great stuff! And the controls with the picture of the sticks = genius!

I hope they move around realistically, that would be the icing on the cake! Thanks for the heads up!

EDIT:

Full play of the japanese version:

Fantastic!

I loved the original when it came out. If you can get the controls right, and the price is reasonable, I would buy this.

Hey Guys.
Quick response to your questions...

- Joysticks do indeed move
- ETA? Definately April, barring a disaster. Of course it's always in the hands of the jobs.
- Price and controls. We're confident both will impress

Keep em comin

Full Point!

I'll be first in line to grab this :-)

I'm glad to hear that all the bonus rounds will be included, especially the bull-killing one.

What is "super large character option"?

"Various new user settings" sounds promising. Can you elaborate? Does it happen to include the dipswitch options from the arcade original? It would be fun to include cocktail mode.

You say indicate it's a rewrite. Are the AI and game mechanics based strictly on the original code?

Will it include a mode with higher resolution art or new sounds?

Good questions While I can't go into tooo much detail just yet, here's some answers to the above.

1. Option to enlarge characters to be bigger on-screen.
2. No :P
3. Sorry I didnt quite catch that
4. As close to as possible.
5. No. (retro ftw )
