Why does Apple censor the Appstore but not (as much) the iTunes store?

Why are they so picky about what they allow onto the AppStore in terms of content yet let pretty much (to my knowledge) any movie or TV show or music onto iTunes? Seems a little inconsistent.

Man, lots of music has tons of cuss words nowadays, and movies have lots of nudity. Yet, you are right, the applestore is pretty much cleaner than being in a church.

I kinda wonder how the android or microsoft store is. Would they allow more raunchier game apps or viewing apps on there?

Without any competition, Apple will never change its ways. Microsoft pcs became very popular for viewing inappropriate stuff. Samsung stuff and pc seems suited for piracy and more adult behavior.

It will be interesting to see how much apple will allow in the future.

Though, I think apple will kinda try to stay family focused, kinda like the nintendo of consoles. And it may well be the more profitable approach, but we shall wait and see. Now with a google, amazon, and microsoft stores up and running things maybe things will change soon even to the appstore.

I like boobs as much as anyone, but in all honesty I'm glad the App Store isn't just flooded with cheap, tacky porn apps looking to make a quick buck. If you want that stuff on your iPhone, there are still ways to get it.

Do you honestly expect them to not allow the explicit songs and R rated movies?

Think about that for a minute.

This is iTunes. The #1 source of music. Where everyone goes to get the music they like. Which more than often has a bad word in it. It just so happens some of the best music has bad words in it.

That's why they have parental advisory stickers, explicitly labels, and a restriction for the device to not allow downloads of said songs.

It's different with apps. The only competition is freaking Andriod. So they don't allow boobs.

I assure you, if there was completion that allowed it, or competition that DIDNT, apple would allow stuff.



Hell, the music you're referring to can be heard by tons of apps. Pandora. Spotify. Radio apps.

And movies.

So yeah.

Unfortunatley they also block "controversial" apps as well. A recent example being a strategic card game (free, btw) based on current events in Syria. It made it into the appstore, but not before all factions, countries, etc. were given fictional names.

Screw Apple. I've paid enough; you want to keep the Appstore virus-free? More power to 'ya. But I don't appreciate being treated like a child. That game I me tioned had zero blood, cursing, nudity, etc.

Another example is a popular indie game under continued development...I forget the name, but it's a prison simulator, available (or upcoming) on Steam. Sorry, can't have fake prisoners on ios.
