Couldn't find a thread here or any videos on youtube, anyone tried it or know much about it? looks good and the time trial aspect is appealing to me personally.

Ok I did tofft...

First of all how many tracks and how to steer?

Tracks:

Wait a minute... there are 12 tracks but the blue ones are looking the same as the white ones? That's right! Now You could guess that maybe the blue are the reverse version of the whites? NO I played 2 tracks and their blue ones vice versa, and didn't notice any difference (The orientation at start is both versions the same), I really don't know why the developer did this confusing thing?? Maybe someone else got the idea what's different exactly, maybe somephing in driving physics? Icy? Dunno...

So how it appears to me there are only 6 tracks

Steering:

The game has auto acceleration One of the whole points of 2D top down racers is, that you can affect with manual gas the length of power drifts! the auto acceleration massively affects drifting in this game, Black Mamba Racer for example (Which has manual gas), gives you as a player much more fun in control of the slides.

As you can see in the screenshots, you have two buttons in the under corners for left/right steering, so no tilt to steer, only buttons. The buttons will fade out after some seconds (Of course pressing where they've been still steers).

How compares the sliding in curves to Black Mamba Racer and Nano Rally? NR was not so much sliding, BMR Racer sometimes massive, this one here is somehow in the middle.

I really like the course design though, and the minor good thing about auto acceleration is, that it makes the game very fast paced.

Somehow I am really disappointed about the auto acceleration, but in a strange way I like this game in the overall appearance, will surely stay long on my iPhone.

Thanks for the impressions. I normally like auto acceleration but that should only be an option, especially in a top down racer like this.

I might pick this up, I am interested to see how the two player same system mode would work.

This kinda looks like Deliverance, but it is a 2D top down version instead of 2.5D.

Not digging the auto-acceleration at all. I don't mind it so much in first-person racing games, but if you're going to go old school like this, bring on the gas and brake pedals or no deal. Pity too because this looks pretty cool, a modernized Super Sprint without the upgrades.

Thanks for the comments

1) The blue tracks are reversed versions. I'll double check all the tracks in the released app to be 100% sure. But if there is an issue, we'll fix it asap.

2) Lite version & a video will be coming this week. The app got approved way quicker then we expected (didn't realize approvals were down to 1 day now) so it caught us a bit of guard.

3) Because of the style of racing (more drift, less race line) we figured that people would always be accelerating. So an accelerator button would be a bit redundant.
But, i agree, an option for manual accelerator couldn't hurt. Same with tilt-to-steer.

Edit: Reversed tracks appear to be correct. Keep in mind the track layout/image isn't reversed. It's just the direction the race is around the track. Probably not as obvious in time trial mode though without a full grid & AI cars. Someone suggested a direction arrow at the start of the race, so we might consider that now.

It is quite a similar experience super sprint...sprint had the pedal which had to be released for optimal cornering...photon automatically slows if you corner too much...it is well balanced AND a great game in its own right...but would still be nice to see how it plays with an acceleration button and tilt steering <--- this would get really close to the sprint experience which was just pure arcade awesomeness at the time...

Great game

Although the auto-acceleration confuses me from time to time, I REALLY like Super Photon Racing. It's just fast-paced - and the Online-Leaderboards in Time Trial are implemented superbly - you can see yourself climbing up the classification instantly (your worldwide rank is always displayed on the top of the screen - when you are faster then someone else, just just see yourself climbing up the ladder).

Great idea - and I hope to see more people competing there soon, it's very lonesome at the top (my nick is Poppajoe there)

So, SPR is a great game - and I hope for a update with - let's say - six more courses (or maybe twelve, if there is a mirror mode again).
