Devilishly Good's comments:

The dev wished to dispell misinterpretation of the game and asked me to add the following text to clarify things:

************************************************** ****************************
There seems to be bit of confusion among some users as to what exactly “Hell on Earth 2” is. So I thought I would take this opportunity to iron-out those.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, Hell on Earth 2 is powered by modified Doom engine. The game data and levels are based on a popular open source Doom community project called Freedoom. So the Hell on Earth 2 can be thought as the Doom II community edition but not as an illegal reuse or rip-off of the original Doom game. All the levels and sprites were done by the Freedoom community members. What we did is to create the iPhone menu interface for the game and bring this two wonderful community software (Doom engine and Freedoom iWad project) together.

So what we did is, bring this wonderful Doom community project (Freedoom) to App Store so that 3D FPS fans especially Doom fans would enjoy playing it on their iPhone.

We have deliberately retained the original Doom iPhone interface/menu look and feel with our own artwork so the Doom fans will feel comfortable with this Doom community edition.

All those aside, so what exactly will you receive when you buy this wonderful game.
1. 26 professionally designed levels to fight through.
2. New nine awesome weapons
3. Multiplayer Mode: Deathmatch and Cooperative play for up to four players via wireless Internet.
4. All these for only $0.99 (Limited time 75% off sale)

Wow, major Doom rip-off. They even copied the controls!

John Carmack will be pissed when he sees this.

Heh, looks just a bit familiar. They didn't only copy the controls from ID's Doom app, it looks like they copied the whole interface (main menu, etc).

I thought when you used the Doom engine, you weren't allowed to sell the resulting game.

Or how about the entire game? I bet the only thing that changed is that the levels are most likely Doom 2's levels and there's now different looking weapons and enemies.

Nonexistant... I just double checked, and it seems that they skipped right to the sequel. Oh yeah, nice reviews btw.

my first reaction was "Carmack took open-source code and modified it for the iPhone, why can't someone else?" but then I looked at the screenshots and it really doesn't look like the developer made much effort to make the game any different... I mean lots of different looking/playing-ish games were made with the Doom engine...

Now Playing: , Civilization Rev for iPad, Hero Academy, Sonic Racing, Kingdom Rush, Dungeon Raid, Where's my Where's My Water updates?
