Thanks for HD versions. A new suggestion?

I've actually had a change of heart over the discussion about having separate HD versions of games instead of making current games universal for their fans. After much thought about it (yes much thought...sometimes it just gets really slow at work), I think iPad game developers should get paid for their hard work bringing HD versions over to the iPad. It's great that there's developers doing universal apps and major kudos to them as it's a great selling point to their games, but it's really wrong to diss a lot of these small developers for taking their time to create HD versions of their games in a new package.

Anyways, there was a discussion in another topic about for future games possibly making 3 different versions, one for iPhone, another for iPad, and another being a universal app. The example being used was Babylonian Twins...iPhone version $2.99, iPad version $5.99, and the universal version $6.99...would have been great as I would have gotten the universal app and again a great selling point to people who maybe would looked passed the game like I did, but a universal version would have pushed me a bit more over to push the "Buy" button. What do the developers think of this model? I think it's great for newer games coming out, plus a great incentive for people with both devices.

Lastly, for the many thousands of people who are getting their new iPads in the mail today (at least someone told me it was today), enjoy!!

Ugh, I hate it when they move topics...I wanted it over at general discussions. Lame, oh well

Dont think you'll find that answer in the General Games Discussion section.

I think that by putting out 3 separate apps, developers might be shooting themselves in the foot. Their downloads would be scattered across three versions of the same game, giving a lower ranking than one would get with a single universal app.

Something that might be tenable would be to put out a universal build that uses low res assets by default, and requires a modestly priced inapp purchase in order to unlock the high res content.

Thats what I wish for too. But the only problem might be that it could make the app file a bit too big for 3G downloads will kill some of the impulse purchases. But for apps which are already way over the 20 mb 3G download limits, this should be the best way to go.
