Space Duel for the iPad - LIVE on the app store

http://itunes.apple.com/app/id341496080

What better way to show off the beauty of the iPad than by challenging your friends to a table top display of retro space combat? The slick, simple retro graphics of an 80s arcade game have been re-created to stunning effect for your iPad.

Space Duel is part of Tiny Arcade for the iPhone, and we will be bringing additional retro games from Tiny Arcade to Space Duel as well. The first will be Survival, for one player, or two players in cooperative play. See how long you can last!

Drop by http://theantranch.com/ or surf directly to http://theantranch.com/Space_Duel.html for more information, screenshots and links. We alway want to hear what you have to say. Let us know how you feel in our forum: http://theantranch.com/forum, or reply to this thread if you have any questions.

Our current game, Moonbase: Lander, is LIVE on the iTunes App Store http://itunes.apple.com/app/id337299371
Or try the LITE version: http://itunes.apple.com/app/id341470380

I have this app and, as a retro gamer, I really like it.

Except for one big thing...

The controls are non-standard for this type of game. Please add an option to use the good ol' "left, right, thrust, fire" configuration. I mean, if you're going for retro goodness, don't stop at the controls! I understand why you can't do that on the iPhone but the iPad has plenty of screen real estate to accomodate this.

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE!

I posted my comments on the developer's web page, as well, and he responded swiftly with a very good reason why this wasn't done. He told me that the iPad currently doesn't support more than 5 simultaneous inputs. Not a problem for single-player games but with a head-to-head game like Space Duel, it would be a problem.

Under the circumstances, it seems he has chosen the best of available options and I still find the game very playable; as does my 8-year old son.

I've heard the feedback and I'm working on a better solution. For Tiny Arcade on the iPhone, the answer was clearly to use the v-dpad as there wasn't the real estate to put in buttons. For the iPad I'm working on either a v-joystick option or buttons if we can prevent abuse or exploitation. We should have a new version to Apple™ soon, along with 1 & 2 player (cooperative play) with Survival.

You, Sir, are my new hero.

Thank you for your responsiveness and willingness to accommodate us fussy retro gaming old people.
