Very interesting and thanks for posting.

What immediately comes to mind is search rankings in the app store. Using admob as a proxy is very clever, but the ads are forced onto users. In the app store, the users search for keywords to find the apps. But once they see the app come up in search results, then all these things in the article come into play.

I think a combination of embedding strong keywords in the title as well as testing the icon and titles using admob could prove useful.

Excellent article! Thanks for sharing it. I was going to use my personal friends as a focus group but I would never have thought of using AdMob. Very clever...

By the way, has anyone read the book referenced in the article? It looks pretty decent..
