Upsi Runner - Developer Speaks

Hi;

I am the developer of the new game, Upsi Runner, which has just been gone up on iTunes for 99 cents.

I'd really like to hear any feedback from people about what they like, and what they would like improved in future versions

-- UPDATE Here is a gameplay video
and a video of the achievements, statistics and options that the game has

Cheers,
Shen

Some friendly advice between devs with no promo code required-

1) Make a game-play video and post to youtube. Put the link in your store description and embed it at your website.

2) The icon, while a cute depiction of the snail, may be a turn off for some buyers. It also may not be enough to draw in users who browse the app store on their iPods and iPhones directly. They cannot tell much about the game. I know that this is kind of nebulous, but there's a certain balance to strike with the icon in particular that can affect sales based on all the reading I've done over the last 3 or 4 months.

Best of luck to you with your new release! I'm jealous, still waiting for approval of my game

Cheers,

A youtube video is next on the todo list.

Interesting ideas on the icon, I originally had a bit of a screenshot from the game as the icon, but the requirement for a 512x512 version killed that idea.

Working out a good and simple design for an icon that fits in 57x57 pixels is a hard hard job.

Well, mine was previewed on the front page of touchArcade over the weekend. So as not to pollute Shen's thread I'll let you search for recent posts under my name to figure out what it is You'll see new posts about it once it is accepted!

Shen,
I think the quicker you can get a video done the better you'll be.

I agree the 512x512 requirement makes things tough. A screenshot may be tough to recognize when scaled down to icon size. I actually started with only the 57x57, and then when I scaled it up it looked horrible Anyway that made me start over and hand draw a 512x512 icon and scale a copy down to 57x57. Even now I'm still not completely happy with mine, it's better though!

I wish I could give you some suggestions on how to portray the action in the icon, but maybe pante has a good point - make a contest? I think someone would have to play it to capture the feel for the icon, so maybe you'd give an iTunes gift card or something

Icon Contest

A contest for a new icon is an interesting idea.

I'll keep it in mind when I start getting ready for the next release.
