I'm looking hard at this since I love these kinds of games. But first I'm going to reinstall the first one. For some reason that one never really got ahold of me but I'm going to play it trying to imagine what it would be like with more complex levels and all the other bells and whistles.

Current obsessions: Bug Princess 2: Black Label, Neuroshima Hex, Pinball Arcade, Final Fantasy Tactics, MacGuffin's Curse, 1112, Dangerous, 100 Trials, Ascension, The Quest
Anticipating: Spirit Hunter Mineko, Rogue Touch EX, Fargoal 2, Cursed Realms

well, here's my immediate feedback: i love this.
when you load up the app there's a ne line backstory that immedately pops up:
'in a galaxy ran by savage shapes, one man must battle all to prove victorious in the fight to save mankind and the cyborg he loves.'

thats all you get as a story and thats all you need. this game is all about pure white knuckle shooting, without any frilly bits. the graphics are all they need to be, and they are awesome. they are every bit as great as they were in the first game. there's also now a glow effect when your bullets hit the wall, which isnt a big difference but it's a nice touch all the same.

there are two divisions of game modes: infinity (the survival modes) and campaign (the mode where there are levels and you try to complete them so you can unlock stuff-aka the campaign mode). if you press infinity mode, there are six game tabs: megagore, dodge this, assault and an all new mode, highway. it's somewhat like Kryzer by FDG in the sense that you play in a circular playing field and the enemies move in circular motions on set paths. you can still have free dual stick control of your character, and the aim is to collect as many white (ish) orbs as possible. sometimes, a little orange dot will show up and you ship will be connected to it by a zigzag wire(electricity? tractor beam? who cares!) and although you can move around it, it drags you along the circle making your life harder.

the two other tabs say 'complete 50% of campaign' and complete 100% of campaign so i'll find out what they are later (looking forward to amalgam mode mentioned by Jyaif-apparently it's a bit like geometry wars!)

the campaign mode is also pretty cool i've played a bit and i'm liking it. it's a lot shorter than isotope (ten levels in the level select screen) but it is also much more varied! one such example (this really brought a smile to my face) is that in one room, the enemies showed up and they were blue and green, and you guessed it, you have to go into the circles of colour to match the enemies and shoot them. this was a cool reference to the first game and i woulda lost several lives if i hadnt played the first game!

overall, i can say this game is great. even after finishing the story mode, i'll still keep it for months, even years to come. the storymode wasn't made to be the main part of the game- it's an hour more of gameplay that helps unlock stuff.

also, about the extra spaceships, i havent got any yet. i'll try to unlock some medals to see how the extra ships are.

Good initial write-up, sir. I'm liking the little bit I've played so far.

I know the developer wrote that you can play your own music and keep the sound effects. Assuming he's reading this, any chance of an option to mute gameplay music but keep the fx? It's a minor thing, but I find that no matter how good a game's music is, I eventually grow tired of it.

Anyway, excellent job on the sequel.
