Warpgate-Like PC Game

I love Warpgate for my iPhone, but I think the playing style would be better on the PC. Are there any fairly new PC games out that emulate this style of heavy trader sim with a bit of combat? The most important feature for me would be the focus on a single ship in third person. If you know of any game that seems like this style, please let me know!

Eve online, but it's far more complicated than warpgate. Played it for about 1,5 years, great game.

If you wanna go hardcore, I don't think it gets any better than X³ (or maybe X² depending on how good your PC is). Just the ship models alone are amazing, absolutely enormous game and massively in-depth trading, then a sprinkling of combat on top.

EVE Online sounds cool, and a couple of my friends play and like it, but I don't have the time to make an MMO hold value for me at the time. Freelancer I've heard good things about, as I have with EV Nova, but... those screenshots from X3 looked fantastic! PLUS, I can buy it on Steam. Just a couple more questions about it: Is it first-person? Is there a demo available? And are there any faction components (similar to Warpgate's)?

P.S. If anyone has any more suggestions I'd love to hear them!

I couldn't honestly tell you, it's been years since I played and I didn't get too into it because it didn't perform well on my PC. They've got their own forum though so it shouldn't be too hard to find out.
