Here are some early screen grabs from Ground Effect when it was just a fractal landscape you could fly a camera around. No trees, no roads, nothing but the landscape and sea plane.

The shots look embarrassingly similar to the finished game. The differences are kind of subtle, fog was added, lighting improved and made more 'real' with shadows and ambient-occlusion, textures replaced and up-rezzed, the palette was made more subtle and things kind of blended together more convincingly.

Awesome thread! It's cool to see the evolution of some of these games. No Backlash early stage shots, it's just gears and blocks getting more complicated looking. I've already started keeping a record of our new game for such a thread though (so I'll bump it then, haha)
