Dev engine for website-replacement app like BBC News app?

Can anybody recommend a best-of-breed development tool/library/engine/environment to create a website-replacement app like the BBC News app? I'm familiar with Unity, but it's not geared for 2D/text/photos/movies, and I'd like to avoid pure Object-C since it's likely too low-level for rapid app development. I prefer higher level scripting environments for that reason.

The website I'm developing for has a lot of photos, news, job listings, for sale listings, and forum discussions. The app will stream all the data from the website's database. In particular, I like how the BBC app has a lot of widgets and panes that you can swipe to move between. Thanks for any pointers.

By the way, after a little bit of digging, I found this via Google: http://www.nimblekit.com/

Might be what I'm looking for. Anybody else have recommendations?
