Wanted to ask the great minds on the forum if jailbreak could be the reason for an iphone randomly switching itself off or is it clearly a hardware problem?

This is free advise:
Restore the phone to original firmware. If the symptoms stop then it originated from custom firmware. To see if it was a specific JB'ed app, jailbreak your newly restored firmware and see if you still have problems. |

ive been jailbroken since 1.1.1 and i have seen many errors since now. some small switch-offs does not seem to be such a big problem for me but ever since the 2.0 jailbreak landed i have had almost perfect results. the only problem i had that might relate to yours is when i was on 2.0.1, i saw that after using my iphone on a long continuous period almost all apps crashed after a couple minutes of play and sometimes the iphone would switch off by itself. but right now im jailbroken on 2.2.1 and i have not had any problems whatsoever and i have 8 pages of apps including close to a page of jailbroken apps. you should jailbreak your phone again on the LATEST software update if you havent already. 2.2.1
