Engines/ 3d party frameworks

Hello everybody

I'm -obviously- new to this forum and to App Developing as well. I have done some programming a few years ago and i have some professional experience with games.

Now for my question:

I have some concepts i plan to see how they work out. To spare me a lot of time and money, i've been planing to make a prototype first.

The finished game will have 2d graphics or maybe later on the ipad a 2d background with 3d in the front.

I considered Unity, but i heard that those Apps are big and slow. Nor can i any of the programming languages used there. I'd prefer to stick with objective-c.

My plan so far is, to write rudimentary code and use IB to quickly put an cocoa touch UI together.

Are there any other 3rd party frameworks, tools, or engines except Unity for App programming?
Any other helpfoul rescources i should know of?

Sounds like you need Cocos2D

It's fantastic, and it's used in TONS of games(including Farmville, for example).

I made Trainyard and Disco Zoo. You might like them!
