I should have said "it's easy to see how gamers prioritizing simply, dreamy gameplay elements would hold Osmos as an example of what idevice gaming should be."

Osmos is simple alright. I'll give it that. Breezy and insubstantial. Not nothing, but nothing to write home about. Game reviewers have their plates full these days, so they must have welcomed being able to breeze through Osmos so quickly.

Is there any replay value?

I realize that this is sort of a simple, relaxing game, but really, you want a reason to go back to the game. Achievements, alternate story lines, different endings, etc., are all good reasons to keep playing a game. What's the hook here?

I believe that most of the people that feel that this game is the way idevice gaming should be, feel so not solely due to the content of the game, but rather the controls and the overall presentation of the game. I too think those two elements were implemented perfectly.

And about the content/gameplay of the Osmos itself, some people may rather at times have a game that is relaxing and that can be played at any time of the day, regardless of how tired/awake/sober/inebriated/ etc you may be. Me personally, I enjoyed playing it in bed last night. It actually helped me to fall to sleep, not due to it being boring but due to it being rather relaxing.

That's my opinion though and I'm not going to bash you due to yours.

Given the ability to slow down time, it would be among the better choices for that. I think it's challenging enough during the last few levels that they would be hard to complete when sleepy, so it has that going for it.

Early in the game, it warns that the wise tap less often. In completing all the Odyssey levels, I probably tapped a good deal more than what the makers would consider wise, yet completed them quickly in general. However, since the game does not quantify the player's performance on any one level or level grouping, it essentially lacks structure. As I mentioned above, the app crashes whenever I hit the award button, so any scoring aspect of Osmos that might otherwise have enriched the experience was essentially unavailable due to that part of the app not working.

I'm definitely with you about the devs warning of over-tapping. I tapped quite a bit last night and still managed to fairly quickly and easily beat a few levels. Although that's not necessarily a fun-killer for me. Also, if they fix the scoring system, I completely agree that that would add a substantial amount to the overall experience, especially after beating the game.

For me personally though, I have too many games/comics that need to be played/read so I don't plan on just plowing through this game as quickly as possible. I'd rather play a match or two a few times a week, until I beat it. That's usually the way I go about playing idevice games.

I have not got the game, so can't comment on that, but reading through the thread, and seeing other threads, I would tend to characterize Grubjelly as a "hardcore gamer" - go from point a to point b as quickly as possible and don't worry about anything on the side of the road... Me, I tend to be much more of an explorer, and I spend a lot of time on the side of the road - sometimes because I can't go quickly from point a to b, but mostly because I don't like gaming like that. That being said, I like to get Grubjelly's, or other people like that opinion, because there is value in all sides, particularly where a game does not really fit into a genre.

I will probably pick this up in the next couple of days, but will enjoy seeing other's opinions on the thread... Hopefully they also fix the crash bug...

In the time since my previous post I've played several of the Arcade levels and have new respect for Osmos. Solar 6, Sentient 7 and 8 are a few levels that come to mind. Those Feraxes are tough - I won't be trying to absorb them too close to bedtime. If the devs would fix the trophy/award button crashing problem, I'd raise my itunes rating from 3 to 4 stars.

EDIT(update):
Completed Arcade levels do not save when I complete them. For example, I can select Sentient 7, complete it, and immediately progress to Sentient 8, but it is not then possible to select Sentient 8 directly from the level select list in a new game afterwards; the padlock icon remains.

Why would you come on here and say that only simpletons would think this is what idevice gaming should be!? That's their opinion, and in no way, shape or form does that makes them 'simpletons' or define their mental capacity. Don't you think that that could possibly mean that they simply enjoy a certain style of game more than you?
Hehe cause it's a troll that has a rep for trying to build itself up by slagging off others. The only such creature on my ignore list so would've missed these latest pearls of wisdom if you hadn't exposed it in your quote

Winner of the IGF and countless other awards yet 'we' are the simpletons eh

Thanks for the laugh Danrel. If we ignore it it might go away.

You and your pathetic fake-phonecall app. You're likewise ignored.
