Flying Ace

[App Store Link, $1.99]

From the looks of this one, it reminds me a little bit of 1942. Has anyone given this one a try? It has two very positive reviews right now with a 5 star rating, but I question that this early in it's release.

Quote:
Flying Ace is a fast-paced vertical scrolling shooter filled with numerous air and ground targets. Pilot 6 different aircraft, each with various flight characteristics and fire power, as you battle your way through 17 levels of nonstop action. Enhance your firepower by collecting power-ups and obtain temporary invincibility by earning a protective shield bonus for every 100 enemy objects you destroy. You can shoot down almost everything that flies and bomb everything on the ground. Obtain the all-powerful super weapon and use it to strategically destroy everything in your path.

Not to be confused with Flying Aces.

Has a similar layout to Blue Skies $0.99. [Lite Edition]

Looks pretty ugly to be honest. Then again, you should never judge a book by its cover. Still, with that same $1.99 you can get Biplane which is heaps good.

Biplane...now there's a fun app, and definitely worth it even more so after the update.

Haven't tried it, but it also reminds me of Sky Fighter (lite version here).

On a related note - can anyone recommend a good 1942 knockoff? That was one of the first arcade games that I got addicted to!

Oy! What are you playing at!

Current favs: The Incident, Chopper 2, Doodle God, Carcassonne
Classics: iFighter, Canabalt, Meteor Blitz, Zombieville USA, Minigore

I tried it. It's not terrible, but not something I would necessarily recommend.

acceleromter control. tap on left of screen to shoot. tap on right of screen to bomb. seemed awkward to control.
