I'm sure this has been asked a lot of times, but I'm going to say it anyway:
I love iMAME4all, especially with my new iCade, but I've been wondering why it's still based on a very early version of MAME, when the version on my PC plays a wider selection of games? Can it not be updated to mirror the latest versions?
I guess, if it could, it would've been done by now, but it's still a bit frustrating.

Now that iPad2 has been released with beefed up RAM and CPU compared to the old version, having iMame4all upgraded to later versions of Mame, or having it supporting CPS2 games, would be simply awesome.
Would that be possible, or still not enough power in iPad2 to ever make this happen ?

I am loving iMAME4all!! Thanks for doing such a great job!

What got me to dive into playing around with iMAME4all was the iCade support, but not because I own an iCade, but because the beta firmware for the iControlpad has a preliminary iCade profile. It works really well, but with a minor bug that I've seen once, and not perfect button assignments just yet, IMO.

Like others, I too was curious about the 0.37b5 version vs a newer version, but with my research, it was my understanding that this version stood out as one of the better versions to use with our type of device. Would this be a correct statement? I would love to play some of the newer Metal Slug games, but I guess there is no way to support them just yet?

So, I've been primarily playing many of the Neo-Geo games, but have a question concerning the BIOS files. I hope this question isn't crossing any lines since I am not posting links, or asking for links/files; just information. I know that these files are needed for the Neo-Geo ROMs to work, but can they be placed anywhere other than having to be duplicated across all Neo-Geo ROM sets? I see there is a neogeo.zip "game" listed in the clrmame.dat file with the BIOS files listed, but having the neogeo.zip set placed in the roms folder doesn't work. For me, they only work when they are inside each individual Neo-Geo ROM set. Am I missing something? Again, let me know if this question is inappropriate and I'll remove it.

Thanks again for a great MAME port!

Playing around with the settings before starting a game, I understand that "CPU Clock" can be used for ensuring you don't get slow down in some games (especially some Neo Geo titles), but I don't quite understand the "Audio Clock" one. I assumed that the audio at 100% would mean it plays normally, at 150% it plays faster, etc; but this doesn't make sense to me why you would want it. Could someone explain the Pros/Cons of adjusting this up and down?

As for "Sound", will it benefit me to lower it from 44 KHz fast to 22 KHz fast as far as performance is concerned? I have tried it, and it appears to help, but is this just a placebo effect because I expect it to?

As I have asnwer before, this version has been chousen because it is specially optimized for handheld devices (arm). Originally it had also optimized assembler arm CPUs emulations on gp2x devices.

I think a newer Mame version could be ported, but I would like that iMame keep working with arm6 devices like iPhone 3G.also, The games that i like are all included. I basically port iMame for iOS to play with my favorites games on my iOS devices.

Anyway, as i don't specially interested in newer games, more newer Mame, are focused in accurate emulation. Who cares about super correct colours and mega accurate timmings. I don't care about this. The drawback is that you need to do some work with roms versions.

The clock speed and sound, as you said, let you gain performance lower it down. If you upper clocks, you are over clocking emulation cores . So games that originally had performances issues (like metal slug) works more fluid.

If you choose a lower sound sampling, you gain performance. Anyway all this settings are for 3G users. iPad are all playable with nearly full speed on all roms.

Perfect. That was what I thought, just wanted to verify that I understood correctly. Thanks for the response.

OK, that makes sense. I have an iPhone 4 and need to up the CPU core to 200% for some more action type games (Metal Slug, Last Blade, etc). Is there any drawback to using 200% for most or all games for an iPhone 4?

As real machine, over clocking CPUs, could become emulation doing things not supposed to do... It's more safe over clock only a 15-20 percent of the real CPU.

Again, makes sense for some possible unexpected results.

As for one of my other questions (if it isn't crossing the line by asking), do the Neo Geo BIOS files have to be inside each ROM set or can they be copied just once in another location where they would be called when a Neo Geo ROM is opened?

Again....thanks for the great port. I'm loving this with my iControlpad!!!
