Zwilnik's comments:
we got a lot of requests for a free version of Flick Fishing so here it is (in Canada initially)

Rather than just do a lite version of Flick Fishing though, this one actually takes a different track. So it's a full, but simplified version of the game where the main focus is on the Old Man in the Lighthouse Quest and generally out-fishing your friends. It also includes a whole set of non fishy items that are scattered around the various fishing spots that you can collect to unlock different fishing rods, reels and gizmos to improve your catches.

As with the forthcoming update to the paid version of Flick Fishing, this version has retina display support and of course quick app switching on iOS 4.

Being a free game, it is of course funded by in game advertising and in-app purchase of the chocolate doubloons you use to access each fishing spot, but if you're adverse to ever spending money (and what self respecting Touch Arcade reader isn't ) you can fish up doubloons in treasure chests in the Old Pond, which is free to access and of course we start you with some doubloons (plus a bonus if you're signed in to Plus+). You also win doubloons for catching larger fish and various other prizes in-game.

Hopefully once the Canadian trial goes ok, we should see it worldwide within the week.

Happy Fishing!

*and of course, the Canadian App Store gremlins have struck, (which is why we test there, Canadian gremlins are the best). the number of doubloons you get in the Village Shop is the old debug values, better doubloons per $ amounts are going through review as we speak, so even if you were going to spend a few loonies on some doubloons, it's a good idea to hold off a little while until the better ones are in.

I've just had word that the IAP change for the amount of doubloons you get in each pack has been changed and the proper values are now in. So you get a lot more Doubloons for your buck now
