Anybody tempted by X-Plane, but want a lite version?

Sully's Flight is a specialised version of X-Plane Airliner. It comes only with the New York city flight area, and the Airbus A320. It's a simulation of Chesley Sullenberger's famous emergency landing in the Hudson. You take off, follow Sully's flight plan, and at 3000ft, poof! There go your engines, and in comes an actual recording of the radio chatter between Sully and air traffic control.

You also have the option to take off and practice landings at other runways in the New York area.

My first impression is that at this price, this is a must buy if you're a massive fan of X-Plane, or if you're unsure about paying for the full version, this is a great way to try it first.

I know you are a Laminar addict, do you think it has all the flight controls, options etc...

It seems to be fully featured apart from no choice of aircraft or region. You get to land, take off. Practice ILS approach in variable weather conditions and different times of day.
As far as I know, the only limitation is you can't safely fly over 3000ft.

I haven't confirmed yet whether you can fly around freely below this altitude. I guess there might be a time limit after which the bird strike will occur regardless of height. I'll report back later.

Ok, it does seem like there's a time limit, or maybe it's based on the distance from the runway. Looks like you will always encounter a bird strike, and be forced to make an emergency landing.

I'm interested to see if I can be an even bigger hero than Sully by landing safely at an airport, not wrecking the aircraft in the process


BTW, that was a joke. I'm not taking anything away from his achievement. He saved the lives of everybody on board under extremely stressful conditions.

We know that you aren't, but this seems to be in slightly poor taste. Laminar is looking to profit off of this, unless they are planning to donate proceeds to charity. I think it is a very tacky ploy on their part.

this game should have been made free... it's bad to exploit this type of event and try to make money from it.. clearly people have forgotten about the Buffalo incident far too quickly.. shame on the dev
