I agree, the singer's high octave voice does sound a bit, not quite there. It's still pretty good though!

Just heard Gaia Epicus - Dark Secrets. Pretty conventional power metal. Nothing you haven't heard before but 'since when is repetition bad'?

Yeah, pretty good is a pretty good desciption. ^^
And of course there are 'buts', power metal is a genre that I've liked for a long, long time, so I'm pretty critical of mediocrity.

And here's that mediocrity I was talking about. There's absolutely nothing exceptional about those guys, no metter how well-crafted their melodies might be.

Told you, weirdness! Avant-garde black metal.

Listened to the song 'Secret of Eternity'. Not bad songwriting (it's obvious they're new at this, though), good voice but... horrible production job.

Hm... I like the sound of the songwriting. Guess you'd have to recommend me more albums roughly in line with the style of this album .
Not sure what aspects of the production you're talking about though. I'm playin the songs in VLC so everything sounds well below average to me.

*Edit: Btw, new At Vance came out. Your opinion?

As for the production, when there is orchestration+guitar+vocals, it sounds noisy as hell.

Haven't listened to it yet. Been busy with last year's Of the Wand & the Moon and the new Arjen Lucassen album.
