I don't understand if i do something wrong in this game but i can't play it anymore

I am at the beginning but i don't understand the combat mechanic, i attack enemies but the surround me and kill me after 2-3 of my attacks.

Is the game too difficult at the beginnin or i do something wrong?

I am no a newbie of this game... played a lot of action rpg on xbox/ps3...
