The "spambot" infestation has been horrible the last few days. Even small websites such as the one I "own" have been getting attacked for some reason.

I just reported about 7 spam threads today alone. This is getting out of hand.

What are they supposed to say? "Oh, thanks for letting us know, I just realized that all the threads I'm deleting is spam" Unless you want to hire a bounty hounter to hunt down the spammers, there is nothing anyone can do about it, except report them, and have the mods delete it

Cant really complain about the complaints here. If I was just visiting these forums as a member, I'd be pretty annoyed too if I saw dozens of spam threads everyday.

Over at GAF there's absolutely no spam. Then again it takes months to get approval for an account, so everyone guards them like treasures. (And the rare occasion when one is hacked/compromised and it suicides in a flame of glory is particularly hilarious)

I'm sure there must be a way to achieve a happy medium. Perhaps require an ISP email account instead of a free one? Much more difficult for spam bots to register.

yeah, but I don't use an ISP email at all. And, if your a kid, and your family only gets a few free ones, it doubtful your gonna get one anyway.
Some websites require people to enter one of those pictures, where you have to type whatever letter you see. Does that make a difference?
