). There are NO interrupts in SE BY DESIGN. You can never do anything on your opponents turn (there is a semi-exception with regard to Traps because they are triggered by your opponent's actions on their turn). This was an early design decision to speed up online play. The alternative is to have to confirm every single action your opponent takes on their turn which can get quite tedious and monotonous, not to mention it would drag games out quite a bit. As it is, PvP play is much slower than PvC play due to the time it takes humans to make decisions.
An example of how slow things could be with counter cards, is in the M:tG Plainswalker game for the Xbox 360. There is a little counter with every card you play and you have the chance to pause it to play a card if you want, or if you don't want to let the timer continue. This is annoying as shit, as it seems when I played it that anytime I wanted to play a card to counter something, I missed the timer, and anytime I didn't want to, I had perfect time to do something. It's annoying as hell. SE does go a lot faster because of the lack of counter cards (I don't really count traps), but if there were some, it would add a lot to strategy, but it is not necessary. I like things just the way they are.
