Toontastic - Looks like a fun cartoon creator for kids

Here's a cool app for the iPad that iJustine just reviewed. http://launchpadtoys.com/toontastic/ It's like a digital puppet show and it records kids' stories as they play so that they can share their cartoons online.

I got this a few weeks ago - excellent app that's easy to use. My 4 year old makes his own little movies with it. I recommend it!

I also got this a while ago and it has been a hit with my youngest daughter. It is fun to make up the stories and use silly voices to make some movies that they can watch over and over... and it's a good way to teach them story structure. A strange thing to teach young kids, I know, but I'm a writer so it goes with the territory.

I only wish that you got more freedom with the app. You're a bit stuck in the direction you go and the characters you can use. More of a sandbox approach to this would make it even better. You can draw a background, but it would be nice if you could import photos. The same thing goes for characters. I'd love to be able to get a photo, crop it, and then put it into the story.

But as it stands it's a lot of fun if you have children, perhaps a little too basic if you you don't.

This is one of the top 5 kids' apps on the app store. If you don't buy this for your kids, it means you don't love them. Srsly.

Great stuff, I made a good movie in it

Could do with tonnes more depth and options though, such as a fill in the draw mode. Pretty basic thing to leave out that i'm sure wouldn't have confused the target market
