i definately would not buy Beatmaker at the moment....version2 is due at some point in the near future and you can be sure it will not be an upgrade

from the list as starters i'd go for
Bebot (Synthesizer
randgrid
ishred - definately for 99c
thumbjam - 9
rebirth - only if its on sale
dopplerpad - i like it
nanostudio (reason) - the definate app at the moment

i'd also add morphwiz, soundgrid or melodica or beatwave, jasuto, aurora

Does one of these do that or would something like nanostudio? I don't want to spend $19.99 if I don't have to, but if it does a better job, I would.
Sound like DrumTrack8 is good for you. it´s only $4.
check the iTunes descripition.

I tried out the free version of music studio last night and I have to say, I really prefer 'thumb jam' for composing. It's much more intuitive, less clutter, easier to play the notes you want, and most importantly, ALL the instruments on thumb jam sound more realistic. The only one that doesn't sound right is 'acoustic guitar' but no one has yet developed an accurate guitar sound for clean guitars. I don't get the hype with 'music studio'. This might have been the best over a year ago, but I think 'Thumb jam' has surpassed it and deserves way more attention and sales. The developer is fast to answer questions as well.

They are always adding new beats, samples, instruments (user made or contributed) to 'Thumb Jam'. Last night I got a huge tabla download, plus some great funk/house beats for jamming. This is all FREE. I composed a funk song this morning in a half hour that I can easily use for a live gig. The only problem is occasional crashes so I recommend you save often. I lost my first hour of work and my recorded loops after a crash this morning. Luckily, it wasn't something I really needed to save, so I just started over and made a better one.

How's Touch DJ 2? Looks pretty promising especially since you can use your own library now.

I don’t have much information on musician apps, but I find Virtuoso Piano really impressive, I think if I were a musician I would surely be using this media, for my compositions.

I'm looking for a guitar chord app that shows you variations of the chord, alternate voicings, the more voicings the better. Anyone have any recommendations? The only one I've seen so far is 'guitar web application'.
